On TWILIGHT REMEMBERED (2003), musical and marital partners Robert and Kim McCormick join forces as the McCormick Duo, performing percussion and flute, respectively. The album presents a collection of contemporary compositions for these two instruments, including works from Paul Bissell, Elliot Carter, Andre Jolivet, Ralph Shapey, David Heuser, Henri Lazarof, Hilton Jones, Wesley Fuller, Howard Buss, Kent Kennan, and Daniel Adams.
Gramophone notes that the “combination of flute and percussion is oddly satisfying, in part because these instruments inhabit such different worlds. While each work here possesses the haunting characteristics that the combination inevitably exudes, their composers take varied tonal and formal routes to arrive at their compelling destinations.”
The duo was described as a “unique virtuoso partnership” by Paul Ingram of Fanfare, who went on to praise the way both players “carved out a unique corner for intelligent modern music, and it’s good to spend an hour there, in such varied, sophisticated company.” American Record Guide praised Kim’s playing as “always supple and expressive,” while Gramophone lauded how Robert’s “command of percussion shadings invests everything with textural sensitivity.”

The McCormick Duo
The McCormick Duo is a classical duo of flute and percussion music consisting of flutist Kim McCormick and percussionist Robert McCormick. They have worked together for nearly 25 years performing concerts on recital series university venues and scholarly music conferences.
Kim McCormick
Kim McCormick is on the artist faculty of the University of South Florida and a member of the Opera Tampa Orchestra, the Florida Wind Band, and the McCormick Duo for flute and percussion. As an advocate for new music, she has commissioned and premiered numerous new works for flute. Her recordings on the Honeyrock and Capstone labels have received high critical acclaim in some of the leading audiophile journals. She has performed extensively in the United States and has also recently given concerts in Ecuador, Canada, France, China and South Korea. She is Past President of the Florida Flute Association and holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas.
Robert McCormick
Robert McCormick is currently Professor of Music at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He served as principal percussionist/assistant timpanist with the Florida Orchestra for 20 seasons. He is a former member of the Harry Partch Ensemble and often performs and records with high profile artists of all genres. In 2010, he conducted the premiere performance of Chan Hae Lee’s Korean folk opera Simcheongga at the National Center of Performing Arts in Seoul. In March 2014 McCormick performed the world premiere of Baljinder Sekhon’s Double Percussion Concerto at Carnegie Hall with percussionist Lee Hinkle. McCormick was the 2006 recipient of the Florida Music Educator of the Year Award; the 2007 Grand Prize in the Keystone Percussion Composition Award; the 2010 University Distinguished Teacher Award; and the 2015 Percussive Arts Society Lifetime Achievement in Education Award. He has also received several Global Music Awards for his albums, many of which are published on the Ravello Records label and distributed by Naxos. McCormick proudly endorses Encore Mallets, Grover Pro Percussion, and Zildjian Cymbals.
Daniel Adams
Daniel Adams (b. 1956, Miami FL) is a Professor of Music at Texas Southern University in Houston. Adams holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (1985) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music from the University of Miami (1981) and a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University (1978). He served as the College Music Society Board Member for Composition from 2015 through 2017. Adams is the composer of numerous published musical compositions and the author of many articles and reviews on topics related to 20th-century percussion music, music pedagogy, and the music of Texas. His book entitled “The Solo Snare Drum” was published in 2000. He also contributed two entries published in 2009 in the Oxford Encyclopedia of African-American History: 1896 to the Present and has authored a revision of the Miami FL entry for the Grove Dictionary of American Music.
