Through the Reeds
Walter Ross composer
Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra | Kirk Trevor conductor
THROUGH THE REEDS is a collection of woodwind concerti from American composer Walter Ross. Ross, a lifelong musician and composer, has historically worked most closely with instruments in the woodwind family; the four concerti on this album, all of which feature a woodwind solo, highlight his preference for the family and his keen ability to compose works for oboe, bassoon, and flute.
Ross’ compositions are marked by his drive for purpose; each work he crafts is written for a specific group or soloist, allowing him to best take advantage of the performers’ skills, abilities, and preferences. With over 150 works in his catalog of compositions, Ross has become a strong player in the classical community, gearing his music towards the enjoyment of not only the listening audience, but the performers as well.
